International winter school arranged at UiT – the Arctic University of Norway
January 21-27 a group of students and teachers from Murmansk State Technical University visited UiT – the Arctic University of Norway: they participated in the International winter school "Numerical methods of data presentation and analysis for engineering students and early career researchers". The one week winter school was arranged by the MSTU Department of ecology, engineering systems and technosphere safety and the Department of Engineering Science and Safety from UiT – the Arctic University of Norway with the financial support from the Barents+ programme.
The main purpose of the International winter school was the exchange of methods and experience of using numerical methods in solving engineering and scientific challenges.
During the school Russian students had a busy programme which included introductory courses in MATLAB®, ANSYS®, Aspen HYSYS®, Autodesk Inventor Pro as well as lessons in Norwegian language and culture. Russian participants had also the opportunity to visit the aquarium Polaria, the Polar museum and other places of interest in Tromsø. The MSTU representatives highly appreciated the intensive schedule of the school and the relevance of the information received during their studies.
The MSTU teachers and students express their sincere gratitude to the staff of UiT – the Arctic University of Norway for the warm welcome and most interesting classes and would like to give special thanks to Alena Dekhtyareva, PhD candidate, for organizing this unforgettable trip.
Anastasia Shironina, teacher: "I was happy to take part in the winter school! For myself I found it most useful to get acquainted with MATLAB® which is quite complicated but opens great prospects for data processing. I hope to continue working with it at MSTU. We also had some Norwegian classes. I learned it at school and it was great to remember the language again! I am also grateful to our teachers for their work, patience and inspiration! "
Elena Mikhnik, 3rd year student: "I would like to thank you all who took part in arranging the trip. UiT teachers are very friendly and always ready to help. We had interesting classes and extra activities. I was especially impressed by the Polaria museum. It was an amazing experience which inspired me to improve my English."
