International Digital Conference «Arctic City Planning and Design» Facilitates Discussion within Urban Planning in the Arctic
December 16th, 2020 MSTU hosted international digital conference "ARCTIC CITIES PLANNING AND DESIGN".
The event is a part of cooperation between Murmansk State Technical University, UiT – The Arctic University of Norway (Norway), and Hokkaido University (Japan) in the UArctic "Arctic Urban Planning and Design" Thematic Network.
Svetlana Derkach, MSTU acting rector delivered the opening speech, Natalia Anikeeva, head of the Department of International Cooperation moderated by the conference, Svetlana Buriachenko, associate professor at the Department of Construction, Power Engineering and Transport and Vladimir Malyshev, PhD in Technical Sciences, vice-director for Research at the Institute of Arctic Technologies, attended as experts of the panel discussion.
The following topics were raised at the conference: urban planning and design, the use of resource and energy-saving technologies, sustainable urban development in the Arctic. The objectives of the event – to expand the thematic network and involve new members, create an international discussion platform and exchange best practices in the field of urban planning and urban environment design, discuss promising ideas for joint projects.
Speakers and moderators represented companies and universities from Russia, Norway, Japan, Sweden, and the UK.
