BCBU+ working meeting in Lulea 8-9 December

8-9 December Lulea University of Technology welcomed the participants of the regular working meeting within the BCBU+ project (Barents Cross Border University Developement project). The partners summed up their work results and made plans for the new project phase in the year 2012. The event gathered representatives from MSTU, MSHU, NArFU, PSU, the University of Lapland, the University of Ouly, Lulea University of Technology and Narvik University College.

BCBU+ project is supported by EU and is implemented within the cross-border cooperation programme "European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument – Kolarctic" (www.kolarcticenpi.info). It is the additional financial tool that helps to achieve the objectives of the already working Russian-Finnish BCBU consortium (Barents Cross Border University). The latter is aimed at developing study programmes to train well-qualified employees for the Northern regions.

November 2011 two teachers from MSTU, Natalia Plyusnina (Ecology and Environmental Protection) and Yuri Kuznetsov (Social Work and Theology) visited Ouly to take part in the distant learning course that appeared to be informative and helpful, as the participants said. Back in Murmansk they were ready to show their colleagues how to use the OPTIMA e-learning platform. It was decided to arrange several training lessons for the interested teachers as soon as the necessary distant learning equipment is bought.

During the meeting in Lulea project coordinators discussed the following issues: developement of common guidelines for joint Master's programmes, ways to encourage educaiton in the Barents Cross Border University, dissemination of the information about the project, technical details of creating an electronic library for students doing Master's courses in BCBU.

Furthes activity will include a winter school on Social Work in NarFU (Arkahngelsk) for students and teachers. At the same time, 30 January – 2 February, teachers will be able to attend an intensive English language course run by Michael Hurda, University of Ouly leading teacher.

14 – 18 May 2012 MSHU will hold a refresher course on teaching methods in distant learning programmes development.

The project is supported by EU within "ENPI CBC Kolarctic" programme
