September 17- October 3, 2014 PhD and Master’s degree students from Murmansk State Technical University and Odessa National Maritime University participated in training organised by the Institute of Transport and Communications (ITC), Riga (Latvia) within the framework of the project "CITISET: Communication and Information Technology for Improvement Safety and Efficiency of Traffic Flows: EU-RU-UA Master and PhD Programs in Intelligent Transport Systems "(517374-Tempus-1-2011-1-RUTEMPUS-JPCR). MSTU was represented by I.Kuleznev, Marine Academy PhD student.
The training programme turned out to be very interesting and consisted of a range of different events and visits including meeting with ITC Rector, stdying PhD and Master’s training process peculiarities, as well as the Institute research activities. PhD and Master’s degree students learned about the Institute infrastructure, attended interesting and informative lectures about the traffic flows in Riga, multimodal transport and transport policy of the Latvian Republic and other EU countries.
Training participants visited the Flight Simulator. It completely simulates the AirBus 320 cockpit. Students tried themselves as pilots. This simulator is a full-size cockpit equipped by real working devices. It can simulate different abnormal events- the engine and other aircraft systems failure. All of that made an unforgettable impression on PhD and Master's students.
Apart from this, the training programme included excursions to the GEFCO and TVA transport companies, the container terminal in Riga, and a visit to the largest Latvian National Library.
