The project was initiated by the University of Tromso (Norway) and the Aquaplan-Niva company. It is implemented by a consortium of multilateral and associate partners from the participating countries which are Russia, Norway and Sweden.

The project is supposed to achieve the following objectives:
1.
Coastal environment monitoring (comparison of coastal ecosystems sensitivity, the study of red king crab as an oil spills indicator);
2.
Bioremediation problems study (synthetic sorbents, brown algae remediation, molecular tools for monitoring microbial communities in oil spills areas);
3.
Development of the joint Master course "Arctic Environmental Management".
